Tekst achterflap

More than forty years after the presentation of the Mural Alphabet (1976), the artist, performer and visual poet Tomaso Binga, stage name of Bianca Pucciarelli (Salerno, 1931), returns to explore the relationships between body, word and gender identity in the monumental poetic alphabet (2019), the project around which the volume revolves, edited by Raffaella Perna, in collaboration with the Frittelli contemporary art gallery.

Linked to the ideas developed by the feminist movements of the seventies, Binga's monumental poetic alphabet celebrates women's desire to reappropriate language and the body, to think and represent themselves as active subjects of history through an alternative idea of monument. The volume offers a vast selection of works, from Polystyrene and Living Scriptures of the Seventies to the recent AlphaSymbol and ArteNatura series, and is enriched by a selection of critical writings and archive photographs that shed light on the beginnings of the artist's career .
